People are always needed to provide a temporary home to care for little ones (and sometimes their moms), and those needing a little extra TLC until they are ready for adoption.

Begin to make a difference for the animals!

Volunteering at the SPCA provides the opportunity to share knowledge, acquire new skills, meet new people, discover new challenges and to make a valuable contribution to the lives of animals!

Volunteers are integral to the smooth and successful operation of the shelter, the provision of quality care to the animals, fundraising activities, and in educating the public about responsible ownership.

If you are over 12 years of age (or accompanied by a parent or adult if you are under 12) and want to help those who cannot help themselves, you can apply!

Determine how much time you are able to give. As a volunteer you will be asked to commit to a minimum of six months of service. Some positions require a minimum of two hours but there are also opportunities with less structured time requirements.

Register for and attend a Volunteer Information Night. It is essential to learn all about the Saskatoon SPCA and the different volunteer positions available.

Everyone who is interested in volunteering at the Saskatoon SPCA must first attend a Volunteer Information Night. It is designed to give you enough information about our organization and volunteer programs to ensure a good fit. To register for the next session, please call 306-374-7387 and leave your name and phone number with the receptionist. You will be considered registered for the upcoming session. If the session happens to be filled, only then will you receive a call back to see if you would like to be registered for the session for the following date. All sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. and will run for approximately 1.5 hours.

Volunteers Are Always Needed in the Following Positions:

Pet Therapy Volunteers

Take animals to visit those isolated in hospitals and personal care homes. Brighten someone’s day with a visit from a furry friend!

Animal Groomer Volunteers

Bathe and groom animals in the shelter. Clean animals feel better and have a better chance of being adopted.

Animal Escort Volunteers

Provide companionship to the animals in the form of escorted walks on SPCA property (for dogs) and offer supervised playtime and human contact on an individual basis (for cats, kittens and puppies).

Animal Care Volunteers

Are involved in direct animal care; helping staff feed the animals and clean the kennels. They also interact with the public in the kennel areas, answering questions about the animals.

Administrative Volunteers

Assist staff in preparing mailouts, organizing data, typing, filing, making phone calls, and data entry when possible.

Greeter Volunteers

Greet patrons at the door and/or assist them in the adoption areas, answering questions concerning animals and the adoption procedure. Volunteers will also guide patrons through the viewing areas.

Special Projects Volunteers

Are involved in such projects as building animal play apparatus, assisting with any painting that may need to be done, and constructing various signs. This is a chance for volunteers to show their creative side!

Special Events Volunteers

Get to have fun doing a variety of interesting jobs volunteering at the many special events held throughout the year.

Foster Care Volunteers

People are always needed to provide a temporary home to care for little ones (and sometimes their moms), and those needing a little extra TLC until they are ready for adoption.
